[Mal goes to Anya first. Of course she goes to Anya first. Pietro, she thinks, would want her to know first - would want her to hold the news for a while before anyone else did.]

[She tracks her down in the library and stands with her legs braced apart, fingers tapping on her hips. There is an edge about her; she is doing her utmost to hover in frustration, rather than head straight into bloody rage.]

Anya.

[Her lips tug into a wry smirk.] Yep.

[She leans back a bit, hands folding in her lap.] Think of any given timeline as a river. There are an infinite amount of distributaries, which themselves branch into different streams.

Sometimes, those streams feed back into the river.

The world changes. Things that never happened always were. [She wrinkles her nose.] Unfortunately, there's no real way to keep track of that.

If Hypertime encompasses the entire multiverse, then I suspect the Barge is, so to speak, sailing through an estuary. When we dock, we're turning into one of the rivers.

[A wry, frustrated smile.] That's what I'm trying to figure out. From what I've gathered, travelling to different hypertimelines isn't easy, never mind travelling between them.
